Hi friend,
Fail Faster.
When run clubs weren’t as famous as it’s now, I tried building one, I was running alone for years, and I wanted to see what would happen if I tried building and leading a community. (Spoiler alert - I failed ridiculously bad.)
I created an instagram account, boosted a post and got 80ish people joining my whatsapp group. I got SUPER pumped.
I sent some message, letting people know we are doing our run on x location at y time. And me being very excited, sent a poll
“How many of you are joining us!! “ with the poll options being as “yes” and “no”.
How many responses do you think I would have gotten?
Out of almost 80 people, only 19 reacted.
17 reacted no…
Ouch,
And one more crazy thing, before sending the poll, I thought alot of people would show up, so after run, it will be very nice to play some pickleball. So I went few days ago, booked a pickleball court. The cringe does not end here my friend. I thought it would be a great idea to post on the whatsapp group about this and ask for donations…..
Embarrassinggg
I still showed up to the run spot, all feeling down. Thinking those 2 people might show up.
Well, damn they did actually.
One was a guy, 22year old? came by scooty, and travelled all the way till the location, thinking this is going to be a scam, but showed up anyway. We started our running because we were late, imagine the emabrassement when out of 80 only this dude showed up.
Well, I got a call from this other dude
He proabably was mid 30s? He asked me where we are and he was joining us as well. We waited for him, he was married, brought his wife for running as well.We were now in total 4 people running. wow. I felt bit better. We completed our run, and went home. I arranged few more runs, only few people ever showed up.
One suggestion I have got from few memebers is that “need girls to show up“. Lmao, the main goal for people joining run clubs now is mainly for dating basically. These are the people who don’t really run, and that’s one of the major reason why mine did not work out.
My group has majorly hardcore runner, there’s one dude who completed today 1500 days of running streal, bro runs 20km almost every day, his week’s average is never less than 100kms. A different breed.
I met one mid 40s person from our run club in a marathon, we were running together and chatting for almost the entire marathon, and one of the most wholesome moment.
This dude runs ultramarathon, has run on the border of India, and did alot of crazy running events. Recently he represented India in an Australian running event. CRAZY.
The run club still is active on whatsapp group here and there, but not lively.
People share their wins, their runs, and some informations for any future running events.
Here are some quotes I found, which goes hard for no reason.
You can’t steer a parked car.
Today is the first day of the rest of your life.
Imagine reading a book with no way to turn back the page. How carefully would read it?
